An early morning shooting in that occurred in Paterson left one person dead and another injured according to authorities.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the area of Montgomery and Straight streets shortly before 2:30 a.m.
Officers arriving at the scene found an unconscious and unresponsive victim suffering a gunshot wound at that location.
The victim was pronounced dead a short time later.
A search of the area had police officers find a second shooting victim at another location suffering non-fatal injuries.
Detectives established a crime scene, and an investigation is active and ongoing.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
