Early Morning House Fire Kills One in East Hanover

East Hanover

Morris County authorities are investigating a fire that killed a person inside a house in East Hanover on Thursday.

The early morning fire broke out in a single-family house located in the 20's block of Ward Place around midnight.

A preliminary investigation indicated that heavy fire spread through the wood-framed house then made its way to the roof.

Crews stretched several lines to knock down the fire before entering the structure to check for trapped and injured occupants.

At approximately 12:17 a.m., one person was pulled from the home and pronounced dead a short time later.

A firefighter and one other person suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to reports.

Crews brought the fire under control in under an hour, with the cause under investigation.
