Firefighters in Union County battled an early morning fire that tore through a house in Kenilworth Sunday morning.

According to preliminary reports, Kenilworth firefighters rushed to 744 Union Avenue to investigate reports of a fired with possible trapped occupants around 4:20 a.m.

Upon arrival, crews observed heavy flames coming from the rear of the two and a half story wood-framed house, causing severe damage at that location.

Swift responding firefighters were able to make entry into the home where a search indicated no trapped or injured occupants.

Offcials say crews were able to locate the seat of the blaze while thick smoke continued to billow from the home as firefighters knocked down hotspots and vented the roof.
