Early Morning Double Shooting Under Investigation in Newark

Several residents took to social media to try to find the reason for several loud explosions that they heard in their Newark South Ward neighborhood.

Authorities say the explosions that residents heard was gunfire that rang out in the vicinity of 181 Peshine Avenue just before 3:35 a.m.

Units arrived at the scene and found a male victim suffering a bullet wound to the leg and multiple shell casings on the ground at that location.

According to police, while EMS transported the victim to University Hospital, officials at the medical facility informed detectives that a second -around the age of 35-years-old entered the emergency department suffering a gunshot wound to the shoulder. The victim reportedly arrived at the hospital in a taxi cab.

Both victim's injuries are reported to be non-life threatening.

Police say a black newer model Dodge Durango was observed speeding from the scene immediately after the shooting.

The motive for the attack remains under investigation.
