An early morning attempted carjacking that happened in Newark's North Ward has police investigating.
Authorities are attempting to determine whether a shell casing found is connected to an attempted carjacking that happened in the 300 block of Mount Prospect Avenue early this morning.
The incident was reported at around 3 a.m. when police were called to the neighborhood on reports of shots fired.
Officers canvassing the area found at least one shell casing but no reported injured victims.
A further investigation had officers locate a victim of a possible carjacking who reported to them that a black male suspect attempted to take a vehicle at gunpoint but was not successful.
The suspect was described as thin build black male who was last seen wearing dark pants and a black sweat shirt with red on it.
Police are investigating.
