Off-Duty Paterson Cop Accused of Leaving the Scene of Fatal Crash

A Paterson police officer has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident that killed a pedestrian last night.

Tuesday night that killed a 23-year-old pedestrian.

The 30-year-old off-duty officer Jose Urena was driving in the area of North Fourth Street and Temple when he struck a pedestrian, later identified as Jaquill Fields, 23, of Paterson, sometime 8:25 p.m. 

Fields was rushed to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.

Urena has been charged with knowingly leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death.

The investigation is ongoing.
