Duo Arrested After Allegedly Robbing Man at Gunpoint Who Was Buying Drugs from Them in Wayne

Authorities in Passaic County, on Sunday, June 11th, at approximately 9:49 PM, Wayne Police Officers were dispatched to the Wayne Inn for a reported armed robbery.

According to Police, a caller stated that he had met with a man and a woman in a room of the motel to buy drugs when they robbed him at gunpoint.

Police said the caller described the suspects, including that the male had a bruised eye.  

He stated that the suspects fled the room through a window and fled into the woods after they allegedly stole his chain.

According to the Police, the caller also fled the scene and failed to return to meet with officers. Several Wayne Police Officers searched the surrounding area. Officer Daniel McDermott checked a well-worn footpath into the woods.

According to authorities, he then heard a branch break and saw tall grass moving.

He found a man and woman matching the provided description hiding in the brush.  

Authorities say both suspects were found to have drugs and paraphernalia in their possession, and they were taken into custody.

Wayne Police Detectives were called to the scene.

Through investigation, the suspect’s room was identified.

A later search of the room yielded additional drug evidence as well as a .22 caliber revolver and ammunition. The suspects were identified as Kathering Berg, 34, of Paterson, and Emin Goroveci, 37, of Succasunna.

Ms. Berg admitted that the pair had been living in the Wayne Inn for six months and that she was engaged in prostitution in exchange for drugs.

Ms. Berg was charged with Hindering Apprehension, Prostitution, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 Counts), Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Weapon While Committing a Controlled Dangerous Substance Crime, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Being a Certain Person not to Possess Weapons.

She was also found to have outstanding criminal warrants.

Mr. Goroveci was charged with Hindering Apprehension, Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 Counts), Distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Weapon While Committing a Controlled Dangerous Substance Crime, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Being a Certain Person not to Possess Weapons.

She was also found to have outstanding criminal warrants.

Both were placed in Passaic County Jail pending detention hearings.
