Driver Runs From Overturned Vehicle on NJ-21 in Newark

The driver of a car that police found overturned on a highway in Newark ran from the scene immediately after the crash.

According to police, just before 10:05 p.m., several 911 calls alerted police of a crash in the northbound lanes of NJ-21 near 3rd Avenue.

Callers reported seeing a two-car collision with one of the cars overturned and the second vehicle enter the Passaic River.

Emergency responders arrived and found the car overturned on the highway, but officials say crews were not able to find evidence that a vehicle fell into the river.

There were no victims inside the car after the police conducted a search.

Police closed all northbound lanes for over an hour for the cleanup.

No arrests reported.
