New Jersey State Police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred early Thursday morning on Interstate 78 in Hunterdon County.

According to officials, the incident took place around 2:15 a.m. in the westbound lanes near milepost 21 in Clinton Township.
Police responded to reports of a serious crash and arrived to find a vehicle fully engulfed in flames.
Preliminary investigations suggest the vehicle had rolled over before coming to rest in the median, where it caught fire with a person trapped inside. The occupant was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other serious injuries were reported in the crash.
Authorities closed a portion of the highway for several hours as troopers conducted an on-scene investigation.
The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by the New Jersey State Police.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released pending family notification.
