Driver Killed After Vehicle Crashes Into Building in Newark’s South Ward

Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred Sunday evening in Newark’s South Ward, resulting in the death of a driver.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at 428 Elizabeth Avenue shortly before 5:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a serious vehicle crash involving a structure.

Upon arrival, first responders found a vehicle that had slammed into a building. The driver, who was trapped inside, was suffering from severe injuries.

Firefighters and police officers worked quickly to extricate the individual from the wreckage. 

The victim was transported to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:19 p.m.

The identity of the driver has not yet been released, and the cause of the crash remains under active investigation by Newark authorities.
