Driver Injured After Thief Steals Car Left Running at WaWa in Elizabeth

Police in Elizabeth are investigating a vehicle that injured a person at a gas station in Elizabeth Friday. 

The early morning incident was reported to police headquarters around 1 a.m. 

Officers responded to reports of a carjacking in progress at the WaWa on Spring Street. 

When Elizabeth Police arrived, they found the victim suffering injuries after a thief stole his 2017 BMW, reportedly left running at the gas station. 

The suspect jumped into the vehicle and while beginning to speed away, the owner attempted to hold on to the door, reports said. 

Authorities alerted area police departments to be on the lookout for a white BMW with a reported NJ license plate number "V77-MHW" that was last seen heading northbound on Route 1&9 into The City of Newark. 

The investigation remains active.
