Driver Fights Victim’s Friends After Newark Hit-and-Run, Then Flees Again

A chaotic scene unfolded in Newark early Tuesday morning after a hit-and-run driver struck a pedestrian and later became involved in a physical altercation with the victim’s companions.

According to information released by the Newark Police Department, officers responded around 12:12 a.m. to the 200 block of Park Avenue following reports that an adult male pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. 

The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Friends of the victim, who witnessed the incident, followed the fleeing driver to the 200 block of Garside Street. 

There, a confrontation escalated into a fight between the driver and the group. Before police arrived, the driver fled once again.

The victim was transported to University Hospital but declined treatment and left the facility voluntarily.

The incident remains under active investigation. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Newark Police Department.
