Double Shooting Under Investigation in Newark's South Ward

Newark Police are investigating a double shooting that occurred in the city's South Ward Sunday night.

Police say it happened near the 100 block of Jeliff Avenue near Avon Avenue around 8:48 p.m.

According to police, shooters arrived in the area then fired multiple rounds of bullets in the direction of several males standing in the neighborhood.

Police arrived at the scene and found one person struck several times by bullets according to authorities.

Police say, while detectives investigated at the scene of the shooting, officials at University Hospital notified Newark Police of a walk-in gunshot victim.

Police say the victim suffered his injuries on Jeliff Avenue.

Both males suffered multiple gunshot wounds in their backs and legs, according to police.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation and the suspects remain at-large.
