Double Shooting Reported Overnight in Newark Neighborhood

Police in Newark are on the search for suspects who are wanted for a shooting that hospitalized two people in a Newark neighborhood overnight.

According to preliminary reports, gunfire rang out in the vicinity of 15 Pennington Street at approximately 11:55 p.m. sending police to the scene where a brief search located a male victim suffering gunshot wounds.

Police immediately set up a crime scene as they searched the area for shell casings, other victims, and possible suspects.

EMS transported the victim to University Hospital in an unknown condition.

Just after midnight, officials at University Hospital contacted police when a gunshot victim entered the hospital's emergency room suffering a non-life training arm injury. The victims said she suffered her injury on Pennington Street according to reports.

Police reportedly held the vehicle that transported the woman to the hospital for the investigation.

The latest shooting incident brings the total of shooting victims to about five (5) since Sunday with three of the victims being shot in Newark's West Ward according to reports.

All of the shootings remain under investigation by Newark Police.
