The Warren County Prosecutor's Office has confirmed that an officer suffered non-fatal injuries after a domestic incident ended with violence in Phillipsburg Saturday.

Police were dispatched to the single-digit block of Hanover Street after receiving reports of an altercation around 1:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, officials said the suspect began firing shots at officers.

Warren County Prosecutor Jim Pfeiffer has confirmed that a woman was shot in the torso, as well as the Phillipsburg Police officer, and gunfire was exchanged at the scene.

According to Pfeiffer, the suspect opened fire on police when they arrived. The bullet "went through the driver-side door and struck the cop in the leg."

The female victim suffered a bullet wound to her torso.

Both the officer and the woman were taken to a nearby hospital.

Police say the suspect ultimately turned the gun on himself, causing fatal injuries. Saturday was the first time police responded to a domestic violence call at the address.
