Domestic Incident Ends in Shots Fired in Maplewood

Maplewood

Maplewood authorities are investigating a shots-fired incident that occurred at a location in the Township Wednesday morning.

According to preliminary reports, police taped off a portion of Springfield Avenue from Tuscan to Vermont avenues where officers began an investigation into shots fired near the Avalon Building just before 8:30 a.m.

Maplewood Police Chief Jimmy DeVaul would only confirm a domestic violence situation that resulted in multiple shots fired at that location. "The investigation into the matter is active and ongoing, according to Chief DeVaul."

It is not immediately clear if there were severe injuries, but residents say they saw a woman being taken away on a stretcher and another woman was arrested about a block away from the incident.

Maplewood Schools Superintendent Ron G. Taylor advised parents in the Township of the matter via of letter.

Officials for The Essex County Prosecutor's Office are not reporting a fatality at this time.
