Friday begins with warm and breezy conditions. As of 4:30 a.m., temperatures in downtown Newark are around 72°F, offering a comfortable start to the day.

Residents can expect partly sunny skies and a high near 87°F, making it an ideal time for outdoor activities.

However, the National Weather Service forecasts a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m.

While the morning and early afternoon should remain dry, it’s advisable to keep an umbrella handy for potential late-day precipitation.

Looking ahead, the weekend brings a higher likelihood of rain. Saturday’s forecast includes a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the afternoon, with temperatures reaching around 80°F. 

Sunday may see a 30% chance of rain after 2 p.m., with highs near 78°F.

For those planning to attend Newark’s Annual Portugal Day Festival this weekend, it’s recommended to prepare for variable weather conditions. 

The festival, celebrating Portuguese culture and history, kicks off today and runs through Sunday in the Ironbound District. 

NOTE: Street closures will not begin today (Friday). However, traffic adjustments and road closures will start on Saturday.
