Jersey City

Police in Jersey City are investigating a shooting that injured two victims this afternoon in a section of the city.

According to a statement released by Jersey City Spokeswoman Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione, officers on a nearby foot post quickly responded to the area of Oak Street and Martin Luther King Drive upon hearing gunshots just after 1 p.m. today.

According to spokeswoman Wallace-Scalcione, police found two victims struck by gunfire. EMS transported both victims to Jersey City Medical Center for treatment.

Wallace-Scalcione said the first victim is being discharged, and the second is in stable condition.

Jersey City Police taped the area off after recovering two guns from the scene.

An off-duty Jersey City officer observed the vehicle fleeing the scene and maintained its location until on-duty units arrived. The driver then attempted to drive away from the officers which then crashed shortly thereafter.

The three occupants bailed for the vehicle but were quickly apprehended by Jersey City Police.
