Jersey City

A shooting this afternoon in the area of Cummunipaw Avenue at Bergen Avenue has EMS transporting a 1-year-old child to Jersey City Medical Center suffering non-life threatening injuries to the face/cheek (possibly a graze) at this time.

Police responded to the area on reports of shots fired sometime around 2:30 p.m.

According to initial investigations, a man described as a thin black male who was last seen wearing an orange or red sweater, back jeans, and white sneakers, fired multiple rounds at an unknown target.

When the shots were fired, a 1-year-old child sitting in the backseat of the car was injured. The parked vehicle was also occupied by the child's father - who was unharmed - as they waited for the baby's mother to return from post office.

At this time, it is unclear whether theĀ child's injury is from a bullet graze or from broken glass, officials said.

The alleged gunman was las seen fleeing fled on foot towards Bergen and Brinkerhoff Street.
