DEVELOPING: Paterson Man Killed in Early Morning Shooting

The Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and Paterson police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a man dead Friday morning.

 

According to preliminary information, officers responded to the area of East 16th Street and 12th Avenue shortly after 7:30 a.m. following a ShotSpotter activation.

Police reported finding a male lying face down in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. 

Advanced life support and EMS were requested, and the victim was later pronounced dead at the scene.

 

During the investigation, officers recovered shell casings and determined that at least one nearby building on East 18th Street had been struck by gunfire.

 

Witnesses told police they saw two male suspects in a dark-colored SUV in the area at the time of the shooting.

 

Authorities also requested that train traffic be temporarily stopped while the investigation continued.


The victim's identity has not yet been released. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Paterson Police Department.
