DEVELOPING NEWARK: Non-Life Threatening Injuries for Police Officer Struck by Vehicle in Newark's East Ward

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports that the vehicle that struck an officer of the 3rd Precinct today was a Silver Toyota Matrix Crossover Utility Vehicle (CUV).

Police said at approximately 7:51 a.m., the officer was retrieving items from his personal vehicle when the CUV collided with him and his vehicle, causing the officer to be thrown toward his vehicle.

The suspect vehicle stopped momentarily before ignoring the officer’s commands to stop and pull over.

The CUV accelerated traveling east on Market Street.

The officer is 46 years old and has served the Newark Police Division for 15 years. He was transported to University Hospital for treatment and has been released.
