There is an active police standoff underway in the city's upper West Ward as police attempt to get a man who they believe is armed with a weapon to come out of a residence at this time.
According to preliminary reports, officers chased a male suspect who was wanted for a possible armed robbery in the area of Norman Road just before noon.
With police officers on foot in pursuit, the suspect sprinted down Norman Road where he entered a residence in the 100 block where officers are now surrounding.
Newark Emergency Services Unit are on the scene assisted with this barricaded suspect who is refusing to come out of the house.
There are no immediate reports of hostages.
