DEVELOPING NEWARK NJ: Police Disperse Large Unruly Crowd in Newark’s West Ward

A citywide police assist ordered in a Newark West Ward neighborhood had officers disperse a large crowd who were engaged in fighting.

According to preliminary reports, police patrolling in the area of South Orange and West End avenues came upon a large unruly crowd radioed into police for backup after they observed several people engaged in a physical confrontation at approximately 9:30 p.m.

More than two dozen units arrived at the scene and were immediately able to get the crowd moving and stop fighting between several groups of people.

As of 9:40, several group participants lingered around the area as police demanded them to move from the scene.

It is not immediately clear why the group chose the area to engage in their confrontation at this time.

There are no injuries reported.
