Essex County authorities are investigating the circumstances behind the body of an unidentified person found inside the Weequahic Park in Newark this afternoon.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the Route 22 service road side of the park shortly before 3 p.m. to investigate reports of suspicious activities.
Upon their arrival, police found an unconscious and unresponsive person inside the park.
The investigation is in its early stages and there is no identity of the victim at this time.
The Essex County Sheriffs Office provides security for the park but the Essex County Prosecutor's Office detectives are leading the investigation.
