DEVELOPING NEWARK: Man Barricaded Inside House in Newark

Newark Police Emergency Services Unit were joined by SWAT at the scene of a man barricaded inside a house and refusing to come out this afternoon.

According to preliminary reports, at approximately 3:20 p.m., police were called to 226 Fairmont Avenue to investigate reports of a domestic dispute.

A female caller frantically told police that her boyfriend allegedly pulled a gun on her in front of the kids at that address.

According to reports, the woman said the suspect smelled like liquor and was visibly drunk.

Police at the scene negotiated with the suspect to come out of the house for about an hour.

The incident ended peacefully with officers searching the residence for a weapon. A weapon was confiscated from the home.

Newark Police will handle the active and ongoing investigation.
