EMS rushed a severely injured person to University Hospital after a vehicle struck them near the campus of NJIT then sped away.
It happened at approximately 9:20 p.m. near the intersection of Central Avenue and Summit Street where emergency responders rushed to the scene after they received reports of an injured person under a vehicle at that location.
Rescue crews arrived and were able to extricate the victim before handing them over to EMS.
The Essex County Prosecutors Office were called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
Martin Luther King Boulevard is shut down in both directions for the investigation.
