The Essex County Prosector's Office is making its way to the scene of a shooting with a person dead in a section of Newark at this time.
Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 300 block of Mount Prospect Avenue around 6:50 p.m.
Officers arrived and found a severely injured, unconscious and unresponsive male at that location. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police taped off the area near 2nd Avenue while detectives conducted the investigation.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large.
In under 24 hours in Newark, a half dozen individuals have been shot, including two children.
