DEVELOPING: Man Observed Firing Rifle from Rooftop of House in Newark's South Ward

Police are on the scene investigating a shots-fired incident in a neighborhood in Newark's South Ward at this time. 

According to a preliminary investigation, residents in the vicinity of 20 Fabyan Avenue frantically dialed 911 after seeing a man standing on top of a nearby roof firing an AK-47 or AR-15 as heavy snow fell in the South Ward community. 

Police arrived at the scene and found shell casings on top of a vehicle, but a neighborhood search indicated no suspect or victims. Police have not validated of the suspect was on the roof at this time. 

Witnesses told police that the suspect walked away from the scene with the gun in his hand. 

Police believe the black male suspect was last seen wearing blue sweatpants, a puma jacket. It is not clear who the suspect was shooting at. 

Police are checking several neighborhoods in the South Ward for the suspects at this time.
