A shooting in Newark’s South Ward late Tuesday morning has now turned deadly, authorities confirmed.

Shortly before 10:15 a.m., police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of 144 Huntington Terrace.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, including a gunshot wound to the head.
The victim, reported by family members to be in his late 20’s was was pronounced deceased.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has taken the lead in the investigation, working alongside the Newark Police Division.
Detectives established a crime scene and began canvassing the neighborhood for surveillance footage and witnesses.
Preliminary information indicates that at least one individual has been detained for questioning.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim pending notification of next of kin.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Residents are urged to avoid the area as law enforcement continues to process the scene.
