DEVELOPING: Hospital Walk-In Shooting Victims were Shot in Newark's Central Ward

Police in Newark are investigating a double shooting that occurred in the city's Central Ward this afternoon.

According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately 2:25 p.m., hospital officials at St. Michael's Hospital on Central Avenue contacted police when a male victim suffering bullet wounds entered the emergency department.

The victim told police that he suffered his injuries when gunmen fired multiple rounds in the city's Historic James Street corridor near Summit Street.

According to police, while officers were collecting evidence at the crime scene, officials at Beth Israel Hospital contacted police when a male victim entered their emergency room suffering bullet wounds.

Police believe this victim was injured at the Summit Street crime scene as well.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation and no arrests have been made.
