The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force has taken over the investigation into the death of a woman found in a section of Newark's East Ward Thursday morning.
According to preliminary information obtained from the Essex County Prosecutor's Office, shortly before noon, police were called to a home in the 90's block of Polk Street in the city's Ironbound after they received reports of an injured person.
Upon arrival, they found an adult female dead at that location according to county officials.
Newark Police contacted the prosecutor's office after the woman's death appeared suspicious according to reports.
The manner or cause of the woman's death is under investigation and Essex County officials have not released any further information as of 1 p.m.
No arrests have been reported.
