The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into the motive for a stabbing that fatally injured a male early Thursday morning.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the vicinity of Jones Street and 14th Avenue to investigate reports of a stabbing with injuries at approximately midnight.
Officers arrived on the scene found a least three people suffering stab wounds at that location.
Police say the most serious of the injured victims was pronounced dead at University Hospital shortly before 1:15 a.m. The other victims' injuries were not reported as life-threatening at this time.
There were no reports of arrests.
