DEVELOPING EAST ORANGE NJ: Man Killed Inside East Orange Grocery Store-Deli

There is an active crime scene investigation underway into a homicide that occurred inside a store early this morning in East Orange.

According to preliminary reports, police were called to the Park Deli that’s located near the intersection of North Park Street and Burchard Avenue before 9 a.m. to investigate reports of an injured person.

Units arriving at the scene found the adult male victim unconscious and unresponsive suffering trauma inside the store according to a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office who was on the scene.

The spokesperson said the investigation into what caused the death of the employee will be determined by the State Regional Medical Examiners Office but it is being investigated as a homicide at this time.

At the crime scene, several residents who said they lived in the area for more than 40 years, spoke kindly of the victim who is of Indian descent.

”I go there to get a coffee and a newspaper every day for the last 25 years and the guys in the store are very nice people,” the resident said.

”Although the area changed, it is still a really nice community. I'm shocked”, the resident continued.

Authorities are looking into whether the motive is robbery but could not confirm at the crime scene.
