DEVELOPING EAST ORANGE NJ: Driver Speeds Away from the Scene After Striking Pedestrian in East Orange

East Orange Police closed off a section of Freeway Drive after a pedestrian was struck near the intersection of Walnut Street this morning.

We could not get public information from city officials, but according to preliminary reports, police were called to the intersection at before 5:10 a.m. after 911 calls reported a person down suffering serious injuries at that location.

Police arrived and requested EMS for the unidentified person who was struck by a car that sped away onto I-280.

The victim was taken to University Hospital in Newark where there were no immediate reports of life-threatening injuries.

RLS Metro Breaking News overnight crews on the scene said that the vehicle should have some front-end damage, but they could not confirm a make or model of the car.

The East Orange Police Department will handle the investigation at this time.
