There is a massive police presence in a neighborhood in Newark as authorities investigate a shooting that involved a police officer a short time ago.
The incident happened in the vicinity of South 10th Street and Central Avenue where an East Orange Police Officer reportedly opened fire on a suspect just before 10:10 p.m.
The suspect suffered unknown injuries and was transported to University Hospital.
An East Orange Police Officer will be transported to the hospital for precautionary purposes.
According to reports, a police cruiser was struck by gunfire but no officers were shot.
The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been called to the scene to assist in the investigation.
The motive for the incident has yet to be determined
