DEVELOPING: Child, Adult Burned in Newark North Ward House Fire

Newark

Police are reporting non-life-threatening injuries for several occupants of a house that ignited in flames on Sunday morning.

Firefighters received calls reporting a fire inside a three-story home located at 308 Clifton Avenue around 10:15 a.m.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke and flames coming from the second-floor apartment of the siding framed house, according to officials.

In under a half-hour, firefighters were able to beat down visible flames, but the fire continued to run inside the walls of the home then spread to the third floor.

After a search of the structure, no victims were inside the home.

Officials say an adult and a child suffered minor burns and were transported to the hospital for treatment. About four other children were taken to the medical center for observation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
