Emergency responders rushed to the scene of a dangerous situation where a car crashed on an overpass then partially hung over an interstate in Newark’s South Ward this evening.
It happened at approximately 7:36 p.m., where the driver of the vehicle lost control on the I-78 overpass at Clinton Place and Nye Avenue.
Police say the car broke through the fence and nearly dropped over 25 ft onto the westbound lanes of the highway.
The driver managed to escape the vehicle and did not suffer severe injuries.
Police say several items fell from the car onto the highway, but it did not immediately affect the flow of traffic.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
