Essex County Sheriff officials notified the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office regarding a body found floating in a Newark South Ward Lake today.
Just before 11a.m., police were dispatched to the Oval side of Weequahic Park to investigate reports of a person in the river.
Upon arrival, authorities confirmed that the body of an unidentified person was inside the lake.
The manner of the person’s death is subject to an active and ongoing investigation.
The Essex County Sheriff’s Office will also investigate the matter.
