The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified of a young child struck by a vehicle that resulted in fatal injuries in Newsrk’s North Ward this evening.
Emergency responders rushed to the vicinity of North 9th Street and 6th Avenue West after they learned of a person struck by a vehicle around 6 p.m.
Upon arrival, police found a severely injured unidentified girl (around four years old) suffering severe injuries at that location, according to witnesses.
The girl was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police closed the intersection to traffic while a crash investigation team made their way to the scene.
No other injuries were reported and the driver sped away from the scene, witnesses told RLS Media.
