Decomposed Human Remains Found in Wantage Residence

Wantage

Human remains were found inside a home Sunday after police responded to a residence for a report of an unresponsive woman.

A farmer working in a nearby field noticed an elderly and disoriented woman on the porch of her house and called 911.

When troopers arrived, the uncommunicative woman was transported to Newton Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

While conducting a check of the residence, troopers discovered a decomposed and partially skeletonized human body on a bed in one of the bedrooms.

It is currently unknown how long the person may have been there.

Troopers noted debris and garbage throughout the residence, which had no electricity and has been declared structurally unsafe.

In addition, a dead cat was observed in the back seat of a car that was parked in the driveway.

Troop B detectives, CSI, and Major Crimes are working with the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office to move this investigation forward.

The County Prosecutor’s Office may provide additional information as it becomes available.
