The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was notified of a stabbing incident that left a person dead in Newark's North Ward Saturday morning.
According to a preliminary investigation, just before 3:20 a.m., police responded to reports of a person stabbed in the vicinity of 167 Lincoln Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found an unidentified person suffering stab wounds at that location.
Police said the victim was pronounced dead a short time later.
The motive for the stabbing is under an active and ongoing investigation and no arrests have been immediately reported.
