Deadly Stabbing Under Investigation on East Orange-Newark Border

Authorities in Essex County are investigating a stabbing incident that left one person dead in East Orange Friday morning.

According to a preliminary investigation, officials at East Orange General Hospital contacted police when an unidentified person entered the emergency department suffering a severe stab injury shortly before 2:45 a.m.

Officials say the victim was ultimately pronounced dead a short time later.

Police units from East Orange and Newark canvassed a portion of North Munn Avenue for a crime scene after a 911 call came into police reporting a man attacking a woman with a knife in the 60's block of North Munn.

There are no official reports available on either the victim is male or female as of 6:05 a.m.

According to on-scene reports, at around 3 a.m., officers did not immediately locate a crime scene after searching the area.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was notified and is leading the investigation.

There were no other injuries reported.

**ECPO UPDATE 7:36 am:** ”We confirm that the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Task Force is investigating a fatal stabbing that happened early this morning.

One male confirmed dead but it's very early in the investigation and no further information is available at this time”
