Deadly Shooting Under Investigation in Newark's South Ward

Essex County authorities are looking into the motive for a shooting that left one person dead in Newark's South Ward on Sunday night. 

A preliminary investigation revealed that at approximately 9 p.m., police responded to reports of shots fired in the 300 block of Clinton Avenue. 

When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim suffering bullet wounds.

Police said the unidentified victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office was notified of the shooting and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
