Authorities in Union County are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a person who is believed to be a teenager in Elizabeth Friday night.
Details surrounding the incident remain limited as the investigation is active and ongoing.
According to preliminary reports, gunfire erupted shortly before 10 p.m. in the 20 block of Florida Street.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found an unidentified victim, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Emergency responders immediately initiated life-saving measures; however, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police secured the area as detectives began processing evidence and interviewing potential witnesses.
As of Friday night, no arrests had been announced, and authorities have not reported any additional victims.
The investigation is being led by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office in coordination with Elizabeth Police. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
