The Somerset County Prosecutor's Office is currently conducting an investigation into a fire that caused fatal injuries in Franklin Township overnight.
It happened in a building in the 2000 block of Amwell Road.
Reports indicate firefighters received an emergency call regarding a structure fire shortly before midnight.
Upon arriving at the scene, they encountered a building engulfed in heavy flames and immediately initiated efforts to combat the blaze.
Due to the intensity of the fire, firefighters had to resort to a defensive strategy to contain and extinguish the inferno.
As they entered the burning structure, they discovered one individual with severe injuries who was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The cause of the fire is in its early stages of investigation, and authorities are working to determine its origin and circumstances.
