Deadly Early Morning I-80 Car Crash Under Investigation in Woodland Park

There is an ongoing crash investigation underway into a crash that left at least one person dead on a NJ Highway early this morning -Sunday-.

Authorities released limited details on the cause of the crash, but according to preliminary reports, the accident happened in the shortly before 4:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes near exit 56A.

The crash reportedly involved a wrong-way driver who crashed head-on with a vehicle causing at least one fatal injury.

EMS transported a second victim to an area hospital suffering severe injuries according to authorities.

Police closed the left two lanes of the highway to conduct the crash investigation

**UPDATED 10:22 am** This is a confirmed head-on crash between a Jeep Cherokee and a Honda CRV where one occupant inside the Honda was pronounced dead according to NJ State Police Sergent Peele. The driver of the Cherokee was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition. The time of the crash was 4:38 a.m. No identity has been released at this time.
