New Jersey State Police are investigating a deadly early-morning crash that occurred around 2:21 a.m. on the eastbound exit ramp of I-78 at Exit 57 in Newark.
According to the preliminary investigation, Trequaun Freeman, 26, of Elizabeth, was driving a Honda with front-seat passenger Anthony D. Thomas, 28, of Plainfield, when the vehicle lost directional control while navigating the exit ramp.
The car veered off the roadway to the left and struck the end of a concrete barrier.
Thomas suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Freeman sustained serious injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
State Police say the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
No additional information has been released at this time.
