Authorities are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that occurred overnight on the southbound Route 23 ramp leading to Interstate 80 East in Wayne.
The crash was reported at approximately 1:25 a.m. Friday, prompting officials to shut down the ramp from Route 23 South to I-80 East for an accident investigation.
A subsequent update issued around 1:40 a.m. indicated the crash appears to involve a single vehicle and that at least one person was killed.
The total number of occupants in the vehicle was not immediately known.
New Jersey State Police responded to assist at the scene; however, the investigation remains under the jurisdiction of the Wayne Police Department.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area as the investigation and roadway closure continued.
No additional information, including the identity of the victim or the circumstances leading up to the crash, has been released.
The investigation remains active.
