Authorities in Edison are investigating a deadly crash that occurred Monday afternoon in a section of the township, according to preliminary information released by police.

Just before 2:55 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to the intersection of New Durham Road and Talmadge Road following reports of a serious collision.
Upon arrival, first responders found a heavily damaged vehicle lodged beneath the side of a flatbed trailer.
Preliminary reports indicate the vehicle may have lost control before slamming into the trailer, causing catastrophic front-end damage and trapping the driver underneath the truck.
Edison firefighters worked quickly to extricate the driver from the wreckage.
Despite their efforts, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene, according to early reports.
Police shut down the intersection as detectives began their investigation, leading to some traffic congestion in the surrounding area.
The investigation remains active and ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available from the Edison Police Department.
