Deadline Approaches for Hunters to Claim Awarded Turkey Permits in New Jersey

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection's Fish and Wildlife Division is issuing a final call to hunters who were successful in the turkey permit lottery.AdRecipients have until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, to claim their awarded permits.

Failure to do so will result in forfeiture, with unclaimed and leftover permits becoming available for public purchase.

Starting Monday, March 25, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., any unclaimed permits will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

Hunters who miss the initial claiming deadline risk losing the opportunity to secure permits for their preferred hunting zone or period. It is essential for those awarded a permit in the lottery to claim their entitlement promptly.AdThe division also highlights a special provision for youth hunters, guaranteeing them a Y period permit as their first permit, irrespective of their lottery application status.

This ensures that younger enthusiasts have the chance to participate in turkey hunting, promoting safe and responsible wildlife management practices among the next generation.
